Atlas has a story to tell.

This is a story of an underdog. It began and still resides with the dream of one man. Ian Gordon has taken Atlas from a concept casually born in conversation to a solid recording and performing gay dance act.

In Atlas’ infancy, smoky pool halls & bars of the famed Sydney pub circuit were a familiar playground. It was the early nineties, the era of Grunge. Needless to say, Atlas had its work cut out for it. Crowds of the earlier shows where not quite sure of what to make of such a concept. After all, having been fed on a stable diet of Pearl Jam & Nirvana, audiences found Atlas to be a challenging palette for their mainstream tastes.

Atlas has refined its direction and product over a term spanning two decades. The years of honing and building a distinctive sound, while fine tuning the show, have allowed many performers to contribute to the passion and drive of Atlas — creating a well-honed and charismatic act.

Over the years Atlas has been like a revolving door of fresh talent. The Atlas show has allowed many of Sydney’s best gay male performers to dance to a different beat, giving them the space to express themselves in an entirely honest and sometimes profound way. To be free gay & proud on stage for all to see, to cast a different light on the daily aspects of queer culture in original song & dance: this is not only cathartic for the cast of Atlas, but also an outlet for an empathetic audience.

Utilising self-owned technologies, the wealth of personnel experience and the support of other performers and production teams within the gay community, right across the globe, Atlas has been given room to find its identity & course.

Atlas is Ian Gordon, James Taylor, and Alex Marcelo Costa.
